During the evening of September 13th, at around 6:30 pm, I was on my back porch looking at the eastern sky and painting this little watercolor. These cumuli were slowly moving northward washed in the early sunset light. The lesson here is not to smash a biting mosquito with the hand holding a paint-loaded brush. The splatter pattern beginning in lower right and ending dead center could have been avoided.
Have you ever noticed how the blue of the sky seems to become warmer in color as it reaches toward the ground? This effect was particularly visible this night. The clouds at the bottom of the painting are just above the trees in the neighborhood. The sky looks earth warmed at that point.
