Cirrus clouds

Friday, September 16th brought lovely weather to Virginia. High cirrus clouds streaked across the sky in the afternoon. Cirrus clouds are high, above 6000 feet, and generally move from west to east as these did. They were painted about 4:30 pm facing south above downtown Richmond.

Cirrus clouds are associated with good weather and that was certainly the case on this day. It felt like a cool autumn day with little humidity. In trying to identify which cirrus type these were, I've guessed that they are cirrus spissatus which form curling wisps of ice crystals along their edges. Beautiful, aren't they?
