The deep violet clouds were between me and the sunset on Tuesday evening, September 20th at about 7:15 pm. The sky was very crisp but with weather changes to humid and wet on the way. I was facing west into a cerulean sky tinged with alizarin as the eye moved down to the horizon.
There is a feeling of silhouette to these clouds with the light bending around and through their margins so the shapes are not completely sharp. The darker the cloud color, the thicker the mass of water vapor. This painting reminds me a bit of a mercator projection of the world with an incredibly large Antartica at the bottom.
I love this one! It is really beautiful. I think I was already asleep, though!
