Cetacean clouds
I blame Herman Melville and Nathaniel Philbrick for these clouds. I've been fascinated by everything whale lately as I've read Philbrick's In the Heart of the Sea and Why Read Moby-Dick? Of course, I am also reading Moby-Dick and whales are showing up even in my sleep, so why not also in the sky?
I think these are some kind of cumulus cloud moving in after the cirrus clouds in advance of a warm front. It may also be a mixture of cumulus and cirrocumulus clouds. This painting was done on Sunday, December 4th at 2 pm facing east.
