God light

What do you call it when these channels of pure light pour down from the clouds? Is God light too frivolous? A movie cliche perhaps, but it appears in our own skies often enough. Here it showed up in the south on Friday afternoon, September 2nd, at about 5:30 pm.


These clouds seemed to hold both light and rain. The lighter area in the middle of the watercolor looks like the source of light, but we know, of course, that the source is the sun high above. These tunnels of light look almost solid.


In 1 John 1:5-7 we get the imagery of God as light that increases the mysticism of the book of John:

And this is the message which we have heard from him and announce unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in the darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another...
